I AM GREEN! INNOVATOR! I AM SMART!

R&D and project activities in the fields of textiles and agriculture are carried out at the integrated production facilities of Can Tekstil Entegre Tesisleri ve Tarım Urunleri San. Tic. A.S. Our company implements knowledge and technology based approaches and effective methodologies in projects covering new product development, machinery and equipment development, process and technology development, as well as energy efficiency and environmental projects.

Within the scope of the 1501 TUBITAK TEYDEB Program, the project titled “Clean Production Practices at Can Tekstil: Can-Temizkom” aimed to contribute to efficient production, prevention of environmental pollution, and sustainable use of natural resources. Through clean production practices applied throughout the product life cycle from raw material procurement to production, use, and post-use disposal the project focused on preventing pollution and waste at the source, minimizing waste and emission generation and hazardous chemical use, conserving natural resources such as water and energy, protecting the environment, and simultaneously reducing operational costs related to resource consumption.

Our clean-production-oriented project titled “Environmental Clean Production and Wastewater Recovery”, carried out under the MANUNET III 1071 Program within the TUBITAK Turkiye - Romania cooperation and involving five project partners, advanced the Can-Temizkom project further by implementing activities focused on wastewater recovery.

Under the HORIZON 2020 – MSCA-RISE Program, collaboration was established with 16 project partners from 11 countries. The project titled “Smart Textiles Made of Sustainable Textile Materials (SUSTEX)”, in which we participated together with Istanbul Technical University, received an award.

Within the framework of the 2556 TUBITAK–Qatar (QNRF) bilateral cooperation and the 1071 Program, our smart cities-themed project titled “Development of a Modular Smart e-Textile-Based Solar Cover for Temporary Shelters” aimed to create added value through an innovative smart tent developed as a result of our R&D activities, compared to conventional solar-powered tents.

In the externally funded CETEX CLUSTER AB 2021 project titled “European Cluster Excellence Programme with ClusterXchange Scheme Connecting Ecosystems and Cities”, new steps were taken toward knowledge and experience sharing in specific fields, individual and group capacity building, business development, networking, identification of new partners and creation of business opportunities.

Under the Era-MIN Joint Call 2021 titled “Raw Materials for Sustainable Development and Circular Economy”, collaboration was carried out with universities and industrial partners from four countries and five project partners through the project topic “Reuse of Waste Stone Wool in Geotextiles (Stonewooltex)”.

We were honored to take part, with our technical experts representing the textile sector, in the national report of the project titled “Preparation of the National Action Plan on Sustainable Consumption and Production”, conducted by the Republic of Turkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Directorate General of Environmental Management, Department of Air Management and coordinated by Bogazici University Financial Application and Research Center (CARF). Within the project bringing together experts from the Textile, Construction and Housing, Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Automotive, Consumer Goods Manufacturing, and Plastics sectors current situation analyses were conducted in line with sectoral and ministerial regulations, and the establishment of a value-chain methodology was targeted. In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the EU Green Deal (2019), the strategy defined objectives for sectoral continuity and development, including progress in environmental sustainability, transformation in waste management, increase in economic added value, social responsibility and human rights, capacity development for green and digital transformation, and policy and market alignment.

Our long-term R&D efforts have included the production of sustainable fibers obtained from the stems and fruits of plants grown in our greenhouses, yarn development studies, and the production of high-performance fabrics.

Aiming to operate in various fields of technical textiles, our company continues its activities in the Mobiltech and Medtech sectors. In this context, while we were working on cooling automotive seat applications, our focus shifted significantly toward the medical field during the COVID-19 pandemic. Within this product group, we commercialized a washable, environmentally friendly lyocell face mask produced in compliance with TSE K 599, marketed under the MEDE C-59 and Teeby brands. Additionally, multifunctional, comfort-enhanced protective gowns were developed for healthcare professionals.

Within the scope of sustainability and biodegradability, our company produced woven outerwear fabrics from PLA (Polylactic Acid) yarn for the first time in 2020 and presented them to customers.

With over 40 years of industry experience, our company manufactures for global brands by offering high-quality environmental performance through a wide range of yarns, including Recycled (GRS-certified R-PET and Cotton), Organic, Traceable (BCI, Lenzing™ Ecovero™), Sustainable (TENCEL™ Lyocell, Modal, Umorfil Beauty Fiber®, Polylana®, Naia®, Circulose®), Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA), and textile-to-textile recycled yarns.

In addition, we conduct studies in the field of conductive textiles as a specialized area within textiles. Our R&D activities continue across various product groups with the aim of developing high-performance textile products, such as technical fabrics utilizing far-infrared functional yarns.

R&D studies using hemp yarn are ongoing at Can Tekstil Integrated Facilities to develop sustainable, environmentally friendly, innovative, high-performance niche products that differentiate our company within the sector.

Across all our projects, we aim to integrate information technologies into our facilities in line with advancing technological developments and to further improve production monitoring systems.
